Ingredients:
Butter: 4 oz or half cup, room temperature
Cane Sugar: 4 oz or half cup
Light brown sugar: 4 oz or half cup
Egg: 1 large
AP Flour: 10 oz or 1 and 1/4 cups
Vanilla extract: 1 Tbsp
Baking Powder: 1/4 tspn
Baking Soda: 1/2 tspn
Salt: 1/2 tspn
Semi-sweet chocolate chips: 8 oz or 1 cup
Steps:
Cream both the sugars and softened butter together in a bowl. Use a flat spatula, it is easier to work with. Your sugars and butter will come together in about 5-7 minutes. It will look like a wet, sticky dough.
When the sugars and butter have mixed together and you can no longer see the sugar granules, mix in the egg with the sugars and butter. Mix really well. Make sure the egg whites don't stay un-mixed.
Add in Vanilla Extract and mix well. Keep this wet mixture aside.
In a separate bowl, mix AP Flour and Baking Soda and Baking Powder, and Salt. Whisk to remove lumps. You can also sift this with a sieve. But whisking does the job.
In 2-3 rounds, incorporate the dry ingredients with the wet ones.
Add in the chocolate chips and give it a final mix.
Now, the mixture might still look grainy and not come together properly. This is the time you use the warmth from your hands and divide the dough into equal portions. If you like larger cookies, make large balls.
Keep these in the fridge to chill for 2-3 hours.
After 2-3 hours, space out the cookie dough on a lined baking tray. Make sure there is enough space so they don't melt and mix together.
Bake at 350F in a pre-heated oven. Bake for about 12-15 minutes. Don't go over. There will be carry over cooking while the cookies cool.
When the cookies are ready, remove on a cooling tray. Enjoy with a glass of milk!
