Turkey Chili

We raided our freezer and pantry this week to make this super #healthy, delicious, and #easy #TurkeyChili recipe! We have used ingredients we had in our freezer, you can use ingredients that are easily available to you. This healthy turkey chili recipe is sumptuous, hearty, filling, and bursting with flavor. Loaded with lean ground turkey, tender beans and the perfect spice blend. The secret to our spice blend is a half teaspoon of chocolate powder which gives the chili a delicious, earthy flavor.



Ingredients:

This is a very flexible recipe, you can use whatever ingredients you have and in whatever quantity you have them!

Here are the ingredients we used:

1. Turkey, ground and lean: 1 cup

2. Onion, chopped: 1 cup

3. Pinto beans, canned: 1 cup

4. Chopped tomatoes, canned: 1 cup

5. Bell pepper, chopped, 1/4 cup

6. Thai chili, chopped: 2 pcs

7. Ginger garlic paste: 2 tablespoons

8. Bayleaf : 1 pc

9. Ground cumin: 2 teaspoons

10. Cayenne: 1 teaspoon

11. Oregano, dried: 1 teaspoon

12. Cocoa Powder: 1/2 teaspoon

13. Chipotle peppers, paste: 2 tablespoons

14. Lime, juice: 1/2 lime

15. Mozzarella, shredder: for garnish

16. Parsley, chopped: for garnish

17. Tortilla chips: as accompaniment

18. Cooking oil, 2 tablespoons




Steps:

  1. In a heavy bottom pot on medium heat, heat the cooking oil. When heated, add bayleaf, Thai chilies, ginger garlic paste. Sauté till fragrant, about 15 seconds.

  2. Add onions, cook until the onions have softened.

  3. Add the turkey and break it up with your spoon or spatula. Cover and cook for about 5 minutes.

  4. Add in bell peppers, chipotle peppers, and a tablespoon or so of water. Mix and cook to soften the bell peppers.

  5. Next, add the tomatoes and cook for 10 minutes on medium to soften the tomatoes.

  6. Then, add all the powdered spices and beans.

  7. Season with salt and let it cook for 25 minutes. Cooking on low flame allows all the ingredients to melt together, giving the chili a satiating mouthfeel.

  8. Garnish with lime, cheese, cilantro, and tortilla chips. Enjoy!
